Social Media Reflection

Writer's picture: LilyLily

I have learned a lot about social media and blogging over the course of the semester. I think some key things that I have learned about writing, blogging and social media are how to make catchy headlines, the importance of having a personal brand, and how much I rely on spell-check.

Taking this class has taught me the importance of creating catchy titles/headlines for my blogs. I enjoyed learning about certain phrases that catch a viewers attention, like top ten lists and using newsjacking tactics.

I also learned the value of having a personal brand on social media. People want to follow someone who acts a certain way and is consistent. People follow Wendys on Twitter because they are known for being funny and sassy. Brand personality is important for having an involved following or audience.

The last thing I learned was how much I rely on spell check. This one relates to writing and blogging. I did not realize how much I use spell check until my blogging software didn’t have it. I have since been writing all of my blog posts on Google Docs and then pasting them in.

My favorite thing about social media is connecting with others and figuring out how I can get the best involvement out of my followers.

My least favorite things about social media is the pressure. It’s a lot of pressure to take a good picture and come up with a good caption for the picture.

The main challenges of this course was Tweeting. I suck at using Twitter and get no interaction on Twitter so it is not my favorite. If I got retweets or votes on my Twitter polls I think I would like Twitter more.

I enjoyed this class and enjoyed blogging. I hope to keep up my blog after this class and am excited about implementing the social media strategies that I have learned in this class into my own social media.
